Mariner of the Seas - Royal Caribbean International

Date: 05/11/11

We'll be spending two weeks on a European cruise! Woot Woot! More specifically, Rome, Sicily, Athens, Rhodes, Ephesus, Alexandria/Cairo, and Naples. We figure that we'll have kids soon after the marriage, so have to have a bunch of fun while we still have a chance!

In addition to our registry, we figured some guests would rather want to contribute to our adventrue. Below you'll find a list of excursions we were hoping to be able to go on during our trip. Don't feel like you have to contribute an entire excursion, every little bit helps!

Help Us Relax... Contribute to our Honeymoon

"Taste of Athens"

$80 per person

Athens, Greece

In Athens, we were hoping to go on the "Taste of Athens" excursion. It gives us a tour of most of the historical sites in Athens, and ends at the Acropolsis where we'd have 3 hours to explore the shops and architecture!

Both of us have always been uberfans, or in other words, completely obsessed with Greek mythology. Athens was both of our top choice for a honeymoon destination, and we're super excited to go site seeing.

"Exploration of Pompeii"

$69 per person

Naples, Italy

Being ancient history geeks isn't limited to Greece... We've both always been fascinated with Pompeii & Mt. Vesuvius as well!

The excursion that we are hoping to go on is a guided tour of Pompeii, including some of the archaeological sites. Woohoo for volcanoes (unless you are an ancient Pompeiian)!

Ephesus, Turkey

"Best of Antiquity"

$89 per person

In fifth grade, Nikk's teacher was the biggest fan of Turkey he's ever met. She made him so excited to go, and he's been eager to ever since he was 11.

The tour we want to go on hits up all of the ancient ruins of the area. An 8.5 hour tour, allowing us to visit tons of ancient cities and museums. Even the city Magnesia, where magnetism got it's name.

"St. Peter's Basilica, Colosseum"

$155 per person

Rome, Italy

When in Rome.... get a tour! Our last day in Europe will be spent in Rome. They have a tour that goes straight from the cruise into the city. A 6.5 hour tour taking us to the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica. How sweet is that!

Hopefully, we'll still have enough energy to finish the last leg!

"Eurasian Discovery"

$289 per person

Istanbul, Turkey

In Istanbul (Or is it Constantinople?) we are docked for two days. Here, Nikk and Christine will get a guided tour of all the major sites, including The Blue Mosque, St. Sophia Museum, Topkapi Palace including Harem section, and the Grand Bazaar. We also get a cruise down the Bosphorus!

This will also be their first trip to Asia, as Istanbul is half in Europe and half in Asia.

"Cairo Overland"

$499 per person

Alexandria/Cairo, Egypt

Damn You Mubarack!

The Egypt exursions are finally posted, and now we are extremely excited about the "Cairo Overland" exursion. Expensive, but includes a hotel stay in Cairo... trip to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, a lunch cruise down the Nile, the Citadel of Saladin, the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali (the founder of Egypt, not the boxer), a nap in a "leading hotel" in Cairo, and then to the Giza Plateau for a sound and light show... all in day 1!

Day two (after waking up in a "leading hotel" in downtown Cairo)... Breakfast, then off to Memphis, the first capital of Egypt where we'll see temple of Ptah, the fallen colossal statue of King Ramses the 2nd and the Alabaster Sphinx of King Amenophis the 2nd. Then drive over to the oldest cemetery in the world (Sakkara)... see the world's first monumental stone building, the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, and then visit some more tombs of dead people...

Once this is done, we'll be heading back to see the Pyramids of Giza, the Mighty Sphinx and then finally, the Papyrus Institute, where we'll be shown how Papyrus is made! Yay for really really old things!

"Internet Access"

$150 for 500 minutes

Help us Stay in Touch

Provide us with 45 minutes of internet per day. Allowing us to post photos, check news, research things we want to see at each port, and email about our experiences!
